Whiterock Conservancy's Whiterock Resort - Coon Rapids, IA

Iowa Star Party 2017 Itinerary

*Updated Information

Here's a few more specifics about some of the events that will be taking place this weekend.

-On Thursday some of the astronomers will be arriving at the viewing field in order to get campers and telescopes set up for the weekend.  If the weather is clear we will be observing that evening also.

- On Friday, we will have a public night where members of the public can come out and look through our telescopes.  The gathering will start at dusk and if you are willing to have others look through your telescopes we have fun showing everyone the views through the different types of telescopes.  Some will probably stay after the public leaves and get some viewing and astrophotography done with their telescopes.

- Saturday evening will be the banquet and after the banquet LeAnn Willson will be giving a presentation.

- On Sunday some of the people will be heading back home, but everyone is welcome to stay through Sunday and head back on Monday morning.  If the skies are clear some of us will be out to get another night of photographing and viewing the dark skies.

- There are various activities that you can participate in during the day.  There are trails to walk or bike or horseback riding (if you bring your own horse).  Sometimes they have releasing of Raptors or informational walks through the fields.  There is a golf course in town if you want to bring your golf clubs.  For additional information on the activities please visit WhiteRock's activities webpage.

In the past we have had attendees bring solar scopes and do some solar observing during the daytime also.  If you have a solar scope please feel free to bring it.  Let's see how many sun spots are on the sun this year.

Registered participants are free to set up camping at the Star Field or check into their reserved lodging at anytime on or after Thursday, September 14th.
